The Songwriter Hour featuring Antonio Lopez and Jobi Riccio
Thursday, January 17 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm
The Songwriter Hour is performed and recorded with a live audience…The interview-style show will feature original songs from established independent musicians, along with a round table discussion and a Q&A section, where questions are fielded from the audience. The evening’s featured songwriters will discuss topics such as the songwriting process, melodic choices, and band dynamics with host Kyle Donovan. The two-hour event will also include a short intermission to allow listeners a chance to mingle and meet the artists in-person.
With appearances this year at Telluride Bluegrass Festival, Wildflower! Arts & Music Festival, and Falcon Ridge Folk Festival, Kyle Donovan’s forthcoming album has already won critical acclaim from folk festivals and competitions across the nation. The storytelling troubadour has been crafting these vivid vignettes, capturing moments from everyday life to tell stories of love, loss, family, and the passage of time for a new album called Then and Now, slated for release later in 2018. He calls the countryside near Boulder, CO home, and often plays and collaborates with other songwriters on the Front Range.
Donovan’s 2016 album, The Kindness of Strangers, was inspired by the connection and common bond of humanity that he found touring across the US in 2015. The album’s “spare, acoustic, [and] infectious” sound landed Donovan an Honorable Mention at the 2016 Rocky Mountain Folks Festival Songwriter Contest and recognition from American Songwriter Magazine. He plays in multiple projects across the Front Range, including Summerland Sun, The Constellation Collective, and Clandestine Amigo, as well as fronting his own band.
His clear, pure tenor is his signature instrument, and often draws praise from critics…
”With an absolutely astounding vocal range, Kyle Donovan sounds like the long lost love-child of Carly Simon and Art Garfunkel. The acoustic instrumentation that supports him is lovely, but over and over Donovan’s voice is what draws all of the attention, and for great reason. It’s beautiful.”
- Brian F. Johnson, Marquee Magazine
Antonio Lopez has the “it” factor. There are those in the know, and those who don’t know yet. His acoustic soul and modern folk sound garners comparison to artists such as Amos Lee and Paul Simon. A sixth generation Coloradan, Antonio was born and raised in Alamosa and now resides in Longmont. He has released three albums independently with plans to release a fourth in 2019 entitled Roots and Wings. Previous accolades include song of the year winner in The Southwest Independent Music Awards. Antonio has collaborated with artists such as folk luminaries Don Conoscenti and Daniel Valdez (Santana, Linda Ronstadt).
“Antonio Lopez’s swelling and melodic tunes are hard to not bob your head to, and his words are ones you’ll want to hear again and again. Both will make you feel on their own… but put together you’ll find that Antonio’s songs have a whole greater than the sum of the parts. And the parts are really good.” ~ Connor Magyar, Longmont Compass
